FAQ ASK Alan
hOW LONG DOES A CHIMNEY CLEANING TAKE?
About an hour, pellet units do take longer.
Do you have to get on the roof?
Yes, most of the time. There are certain situations that we do not need to.
What do i need to do to prepare for a chimney cleaning?
It is always appreciated to have a parking spot available to start. From there please have the area around the unit/fireplace clear from anything delicate. We will need access to electricity during the cleaning as well. No need to clean the firebox or anything for us, we got it handled.
do you need to get into the house?
Yes. To do a proper inspection and do a thorough cleaning.
DO I NEED TO BE HOME?
We prefer you to be home, but if you are comfortable leaving a key or door code we can complete the job just the same.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF GETTING A NEW UNIT?
The way we prefer it is in three easy steps!
1st you would come in and go through all the options that fit your situation.
2nd we would schedule for our installer to stop by. To take measurements and verify that it will work out as planned.
3rd is when the install date happens, we place the unit and get it up and running. Some situations may require another stop or two to finish things up.
How much does it cost to get a chimney cleaned?
It really depends on your system, wood/pellet/gas, and all of our cleaning include a standard inspection. Since it varies between systems we do not have a set price. Generally it ranges from about $150-$250, but could be more, per unit.
CAN I PUT A WOOD STOVE IN DOUGLAS COUNTY?
Long as the stove or fireplace is up to current EPA requirements then you can have a wood burning system in Douglas County Nevada.
DO I NEED A PERMIT TO INSTALL A NEW UNIT?
The county does require a permit to be pulled for any unit penetrating the wall or roof. You can pull one as the homeowner, or we can as part of an install.
DO WE NEED TO TIP THE SWEEP?
No, but it is a special treat and they thoroughly appreciate it when the crews get tips.
Have a question of your own? Please feel free to email or call us and we can go over everything in as much detail as you please.

WHAT DO WE DO?
During a chimney cleaning, we evaluate the condition of the system from top to bottom. Clean out the chimney cap and chimney itself, along with the firebox and everything entailed there. For an inspection, we do pull out the tape measure to make sure everything is up to code. When doing a pellet service we do make sure all the parts are in working condition. The crews will let you know if a part is getting weak or not performing at it's best. If they don't have the part on the truck then we would reschedule for the fix. Doing an install in your home first requires us to make a preliminary visit to verify that everything will work out in the position you want in your home, along with the correct sized unit for your space. After that, we would get you a pretty close estimate and then schedule your install. Installs can take anywhere from about two hours to a full 8 hours depending on the situation. We are mobile home (manufactured home) licensed, so installations in that situation can be handled just as smoothly. Coming into the shop you are always welcome! We like to go over all the options available to you. We help narrow it all down so you can choose the best unit for your situation. Whether you go with wood, gas, or pellet, we are here to help out.

BTU's vs Efficiency
BTU's - British Thermal Units
BTU's are used in different ways for each type of fuel.
Wood burning BTU ratings are based in a controlled environment at a testing facility with a controlled and measured amount of wood.
Pellet burning BTU ratings are the only kind that we can somewhat trust, but we still don't know which pellet brand or blend gave the testing facility those results. Each pellet stove develops its own efficiency depending on the pellets used and the owner'sBTUspreferences.
Gas/LP burning BTU's are the most consistent for testing and getting efficiency numbers. The issue with the efficiency numbers is that they gather the amount of unused fuel in the exhaust to gather those numbers. So compared to a furnace a fireplace will always be less efficient. Therefore, looking into heat ratings means even more to NG and LP units. A furnace doesn't need to have a pretty flame to create its heat, but the heat does need to travel throughout the house in the ducts. For a fireplace or stove the flame needs to have some colors to it (we control the airflow for you), so it lowers the efficiency according to the exhaust measurements but it creates the heat directly into the room for you.
There is a difference between heat rated and decorative appliances when it comes to NG/LP units. Check Out Alan's Blog for more on that.
Quality and credibility
We have a few requirements that brands need to meet for us to carry them. We want the units we have available to have plenty of options to fit everyones decor. We also require them all to put out the heat needed to combat the cold seasons. The quality of the metals and the glass can make a huge difference as well.
Each of our brands have the experience and reliability we look out for when scouting for new units.
Warranty's
Each unit has its own warranty from the installation date. Most units have some version of a limited lifetime warranty. If any parts are going to go out they will within a few uses - normally.
Our guarantee - if there are any issues from one of our visits please let us know within two weeks to be addressed as promptly as possible. Some situations warranted longer.
